Tenacity ~ Mixed Media

This is certainly a departure for me...this is a mixed media piece, Masa paper on canvas, watercolour and fluid acrylics, a bit of ink, gauze, and spider webbing! It's 24" x 12", not framed. I'm going to enter it into a show called "On The Edge", and while it does represent a physical edge, it has also pushed me over a creative edge, which is a good thing!

I have to say, it's hard to get a good photo. I took this one this morning, and you can see the shadows formed by the texture of the paper. Depending on the direction of the light, you get different shadows. It's also hard to see the metallic sheen of the gold and copper paint.

  1. Wowzers! Most impressive. I can even see the metallics in the image. What type of metallic medium did you use? May I ask?

Btw, love the new look of your blog.:)

  2. Billie, thanks! I just used regular old metallic acrylics. Golden liquids.
Glad you like how the blog looks, just trying out something different!

  3. Metallic acrylics...I'll have to give those a try. I love the effects you achieved with them.

  4. Hi Patty, I thought I would come over here and commiserate with you on photographing images. I have a lot of trouble with it too as far as getting colors and light on the image to look even or not have a corner in shadow. Something always seems off. There used to be a photographer out where I worked that would take slides but when I entered those in a juried group I still got quality complaints; So I know it is not the easiest job. The one thing I did that helped with shadows on texture was to set up two light sources aimed at my easel. That way one light canceled out the shadows created by the other. The lights were aimed a little past each other - opposite corners so the glare wouldn't be in one hot spot. The one good thing about watercolor is it isn't shiny.
Good luck with this entry in the show. It has a very unique look in the photo. I bet it's fantastic in Person.
